What is the School Nurse Endorsement Program?
The School Nurse Endorsement Program at McKendree University is designed for bachelor's prepared registered nurses. It is a 10-credit hour endorsement program completed over two semesters. The program prepares students for eligibility to take the school nurse content exam through the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The successful candidate will be recommended for endorsement to the ISBE. ISBE grants the Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsement in school nursing when the content exam and program requirements have been successfully completed.
McKendree University's program is offered fully online, with two theory courses during the Fall Semester and an internship in the Spring Semester.
To complete the school nurse endorsement program, students must complete the following courses:
SPE 576 - Special Education and School Nurses (3 credit hours)
NUR 577 - School Nursing Theory and Best Practices (3 credit hours)
NUR 578 - School Nurse Internship (4 credit hours/300 Practicum hours)
