Latino Filmmaker to Speak at McKendree on Sept. 26

Lebanon, Ill. — Jesus Nebot, an award-winning Latino filmmaker and motivational speaker, is the keynote speaker for Hispanic Heritage Month at McKendree University. He will give a brown bag lunch presentation on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at noon in Piper Academic Center, Room 222. The focus will be illegal immigration in the United States and how to help combat this problem.

That same evening, Nebot will screen his 2001 film “No Turning Back” (98 min.) at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts at 6 p.m., with a question-and-answer session following. In the film, a Mexican English teacher seeks a better life for himself and his young daughter after losing his wife in a hurricane. It has won 23 awards, including an Alma Award for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture. Nebot demonstrated his versatility of talent by writing, directing, producing and starring in the film.

He has lectured in over 30 states and 10 countries for educational and cultural organizations. His cross-cultural knowledge gives him a unique perspective in the field of human potential. Nebot’s mission is to “inspire personal and social healing and transformation through his speaking engagements, training seminars and artistic endeavors,” according to his website, jesusnebot.com.

He is a certified member of the National Speakers Association and was named one of “The Top 100 Latinos on the Move” by Latino Impact Magazine. His newest humanitarian project is The Oneness Institute, a non-profit education organization that is committed to empowering each person to become a visionary leader.
