Live Music, Hot Wings & More at McKendree’s ‘Spring Fling’ Apr. 20
Lebanon, Ill. – A hot wings competition, live music featuring local and regional bands,
and more will be part of the fun at McKendree University’s Spring Fling on Saturday,
April 20 from noon to 6 p.m.
The annual end-of-school-year event is open to the community. Inflatables and games,
concession stands and more will be set up on the campus quad, west of Alton Street
in Lebanon.
Returning for a fifth year is the “Spring Fling Wing Thing.” Several local businesses
will be on campus to compete for top honors and bragging rights. Fair-goers can purchase
tickets to sample wings and cast their votes for the People’s Choice Award. Proceeds
from the wing event will be donated to the American Red Cross. Spots are still available
for those businesses that wish to compete. Top prize for the Bearcat Best Wing includes
a $300 cash prize and a traveling trophy. Last year’s champion was Bottom Dollar Foods
in Lebanon.
Other events include a student wing-bobbing competition. “It’s a short event, but
our students and the spectators really enjoy it,” said Craig Robertson, director of
campus activities. “There’s just something entertaining about people picking wings
out of a baby pool filled with ranch dressing.”
Several bands will provide a variety of musical entertainment on the quad. 28 Days
(www.28daysband.com), a band from the Chicago area returns to kick things off at noon.
Also appearing will be Feel Good Music at 3 p.m. and a special guest band, to be named
later, at 5 p.m. “We’re really looking forward to this musical line-up,” said Kaleigh
Admire, traditions programming coordinator for the Campus Activities Board. “There’s
a little bit of something for everyone – cover tunes and some original music that
spans a variety of genres.”
Many games and inflatable activities are free of charge. Several student organizations
will be on hand hosting fundraisers to assist their groups. Concessions will be available
for purchase. Lawn chairs are encouraged but coolers and alcohol are prohibited.
