'Grand Budapest Hotel,' 'Selma' Added to Hett Film Series in 2015
(LEBANON, Ill., December 12, 2014) — The Hettenhausen Center for the Arts has added
two 2015 Golden Globe nominated films to its Film Arts Series and an appearance by
one of the actors. General admission is $5 and free for McKendree University students,
faculty and staff members.
Sunday, Jan. 25, at 3 and 7 p.m.: “The Grand Budapest Hotel” follows the adventures of Gustave H, (Ralph Fiennes) a legendary concierge at a famous
hotel from the fictional Republic of Zubrowka between the first and second World Wars,
and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. Directed by
Wes Anderson, it is a Golden Globe nominee for best comedy-musical, best director,
best screenplay and best actor. (2014, Rated R. 100 min.)
Wednesday, March 18 at 7 p.m.: “Selma” chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965 when Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent
opposition. The epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Ala., culminated in President
Lyndon Johnson (played by Tom Wilkinson) signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one
of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement. Directed by Ava DuVernays,
“Selma” tells the real story of how the revered leader and visionary King and his
brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that forever altered history.
The film has received Golden Globe nominations for best drama, best director, original
song and best actor David Oyelowo for his portrayal of Dr. King. (2014, Not rated,

Colman Domingo, who co-stars as Rev. Ralph Abernathy in the film, will be on campus
for the day on March 18. He has appeared in many films, including “Lincoln” and “The
Butler,” and was nominated for a Tony Award in 2011 for his work in “The Scottsboro
Boys” on Broadway. Domingo will participate in a master class for McKendree theater
students and take questions after the screening of “Selma.”
