Hett Film Series Adds Three New Releases

“Arrival,” “Moonlight” and “La La Land” to Be Shown in 2017


(LEBANON, Ill., November 9, 2016) — Three new releases, including some anticipated to be Academy Award contenders, have been added to the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts’ Film Arts Series in 2017. Admission is free for students, faculty and staff members, and free or $5 for the public where indicated as follows:


Nov. 21, 7 p.m.: “Macbeth”
(2015) – After murdering King Duncan and seizing the throne, Macbeth becomes consumed with guilt and paranoia in Shakespeare’s bloody tale of a Scottish tyrant. Rated R; 1 hour, 53 min.

Jan. 22, 2017, 3 and 7 p.m.: “Arrival” (2016) – A linguist recruited by the military tries to communicate with aliens which have suddenly arrived at various locations on Earth. $5 admission. Rated PG-13; 1 hour, 56 min.

Feb. 7, 7 p.m.: “Do the Right Thing” (1989) – In a predominantly black neighborhood, a pizzeria’s Italian-actor-only Wall of Fame becomes a neighborhood flashpoint in this drama directed by Spike Lee, which focuses on issues of urban racism. Rated R; 2 hours.

Feb. 23, 7 p.m.: “Dear White People” (2014) – A campus culture war between blacks and whites at a mostly white school comes to a head when the staff of a humor magazine stages an offensive Halloween party. Rated R; 1 hour, 48 min.

Feb. 28, 7 p.m.: “Moonlight” (2016) – This drama chronicles the life of a black gay youth from childhood to adulthood, as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough Miami neighborhood. Rated R; 1 hour, 50 min.

April 9, 3 and 7 p.m.: “La La Land” (2016) – A contemporary musical starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling centers on the relationship between a jazz musician and an aspiring actress. $5 admission. Rated PG-13; 2 hours, 8 min.
