Capt. Charles Blake
Capt. Charles Wesley Blake was born on July 7, 1826 in Gloucester, New Jersey. He
moved to Troy, Illinois and was enrolled by Gov. Yates. He served one year during
the Mexican War as a private before serving in the 117th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was promoted to Captain of Company E on Aug. 30,
1864. Following the Civil War, he enrolled as a Militiaman of Missouri on Dec. 17,
1866.
Prior to the war, Blake was married to Lettice J. Moffett and they had two children.
In 1855, he was married to Sara A. Hadley and they had five more children. He died
on May 26, 1869 and is buried in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg, Missouri.
