U.S. News Ranks McKendree Online Program in Nation’s Top 40
Lebanon, Ill. — McKendree University’s online bachelor’s degree program is among the top 40 in the nation for 2014, according to U.S. News & World Report.
U.S. News announced its 2014 “Best Online Programs” on Jan. 8, ranking online bachelor’s
degrees and online master’s degrees in engineering, business, education, nursing and computer information technology.
McKendree University’s online bachelor’s degree program is tied at No. 37 of all 205
colleges and universities ranked; it is tied for 14th among private institutions. U.S. News considered student engagement, faculty credentials
and training, peer reputation, and student services and technology in its evaluation
of online bachelor’s degree programs. McKendree and the University of Missouri-St.
Louis are the only institutions in the local metropolitan area with online bachelor’s
degree programs among the top 40 in the U.S. News rankings.
“McKendree Online” offers undergraduate majors in psychology, business administration,
human resource management, management, marketing, sport management and nursing to
students who are unable to attend one of the university’s campuses or off-campus locations.
“McKendree Online connects students to the same high quality education, experience
and service for which the university is known,” said Dr. James Dennis, president.
“We are proud to be considered among the best in the country.”
According to the usnews.com website, nearly 1,000 distance education programs completed
a U.S. News questionnaire during the summer of 2013, up from 860 programs the previous
year. Only degree-granting programs that offer courses entirely online were considered.
The U.S. News rankings are the only ones published that compare data of online degree
programs rather than the schools that offer them. The methodology includes peer review
data based on schools’ evaluations of each other and gives greater weight to one-year
retention rates, graduation rates and required time to graduate.
The university’s online graduate business program ranked among the top 100 institutions for a second consecutive year, at No. 87. The
results are posted at usnews.com/online-education.
