It's 'Curtains' at the Hett, Nov. 4-6

McKendree University Students Perform Musical Mystery

(LEBANON, Ill., October 27, 2016) — McKendree University’s Departments of Theatre, Music, and Dance are proud to present their first collaborative, mainstage performance, “Curtains,” with music and lyrics by Kander and Ebb. The curtain will rise for the musical comedy whodunit Nov. 4-6 at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts on campus. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday’s matinee starts at 2:30 p.m.

“’Curtains’ is a reminder that the show goes on. Sometimes, everything that can go wrong during a production does go wrong,” said Director Michelle Radke Magnussen. “Rehearsals can be stressful, scenes can be hard to mold; sometimes it feels like the show will never come together. Despite all of that, when the curtain rises, no one knows that the actors are exhausted, that the same scene and cues have been gone over, and over, and over countless times that past week. Theatre is not easy, but show people can make it look like it is.”

“Curtains” takes place on the opening night of a new musical, “Robbin’ Hood.” Reviews can kill a show, but what happens when the leading lady is killed on stage at the end of the opening night performance? For the cast of “Robbin’ Hood,” this means that homicide detective Frank Cioffi is ordered to investigate. As he tries to solve the late murder, surrounded by possible suspects—which might include the girl of his dreams—Cioffi finds himself fixing the production of “Robbin’ Hood” as well.
