DCI Drum Corps Show Returns to McKendree on July 14
Five of the Seven Corps Make Their ‘DCI St. Louis’ Debut
Drum Corps International competition returns to McKendree University in 2014, with
five of seven corps making their “DCI St. Louis” debut on Monday, July 14 at 7:30
p.m. For the first time, McKendree will host the Boston Crusaders, from Massachusetts;
the Colts, from Dubuque, Iowa; Jersey Surf, from Camden County, N.J.; Louisiana Stars,
from Lafayette, La.; and Spirit of Atlanta, from Georgia. Returning are Music City,
from Nashville, Tenn., and Pioneer, from Milwaukee, Wisc.
“DCI St. Louis” is one of the most popular stops on “Marching Music’s Major League’s”
Midwestern tour, which culminates at the world championships in Indianapolis in August.
The show will take place at Leemon Athletic Field on campus, adjacent to the Hettenhausen
Center for the Arts, at 400 N. Alton St. in Lebanon, Ill., 25 miles east of downtown
St. Louis. Gates will open at 5:45 p.m. on Monday night for the 7:30 p.m. show.
*Note: Alton Street is currently under construction on weekdays between College and
Summerfield Roads. The street will reopen each evening after the construction crew
leaves, around 4 p.m.
Music City Drum Corps will rehearse on the campus football field on Sunday, July 13
in the afternoon and evening; and Monday, July 14, during the day. David Boggs, McKendree
director of athletic bands, is corps director of Music City and Tanner Cooper, a McKendree
student from Granite City, is a member.
Tickets are available online at dci.org/tickets. Prices range from $15 to $40 for
reserved premium seating. Groups of 20 or more qualify for a $5 discount in select
sections; call 317-275-1212 for details. Wheelchair accessible seating is available
in the front rows. Advance orders will end approximately a week before the event.
DCI expects another sell out this year, however any remaining tickets may be purchased
at the box office on the afternoon of July 14.
Proceeds from “DCI St. Louis” support the McKendree University Music Department’s
interactive “Music in Our Schools” program for K-12 students.
The Boston Crusaders will make their first “DCI St. Louis” appearance
at McKendree University’s Leemon Field on July 14.
