McKendree University Joins the National Giving Tuesday Movement
After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, A Day Focused on Philanthropy
(LEBANON, Ill., November 3, 2015) - On Giving Tuesday, Dec. 1, McKendree University
will encourage alumni, supporters, students, faculty and staff members to join others
worldwide in a common purpose: giving back.
Taking place the week after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday channels the generous spirit
of the holiday season to inspire charitable giving, said Vincent Piazza, director
of annual giving at McKendree. “In the way that Black Friday and Cyber Monday have
become synonymous with shopping, Giving Tuesday uses social media to create awareness
for a day dedicated to philanthropy,” he explained.
University officials say they hope taking part in Giving Tuesday will become an annual
tradition within the campus community. The initiative is a key part of the university’s
“Count Me In” participation-based fund raising campaign. Donations can be made online,
by phone or via email. Follow #McKitCount on Twitter or visit mckendree.edu/givingtuesday.
Giving Tuesday is a grassroots initiative founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street,
in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. It has engaged over 30,000 corporate
and nonprofit organizations worldwide, with more joining the movement each week.
