The Hett to Celebrate Diversity with Immersive February Lineup
ETHEL + Robert Mirabal: The River performance rescheduled for May 3
(LEBANON, Ill., January 31, 2022) – The Hettenhausen Center for the Arts on McKendree
University’s campus is gearing up to celebrate a month full of diversity with a lineup
of must-see shows, workshops and performances.
February’s shows are as follows:
Our Planet (2019) – Wednesday, Feb. 2, 6 p.m., featuring ScreenTalk host Dr. Martha Patterson, professor of English. This show has been CANCELLED due to inclement weather.
Mad River Theater Works: Freedom Riders – Thursday, Feb. 17, 2 p.m. (workshop) and 7 p.m. (performance). Company members will provide practical techniques for crafting plays and insights
into the creative process in their hands-on improvisational workshop. Participants
will also learn how to guide young people in making plays, including identifying and
researching topics, creating dialogue and using performance techniques. The 7 p.m.
performance explores the valiant personalities behind one of the most critical chapters
in the history of the Civil Rights movement. Tickets for the workshop are free. Tickets
for the performance at 7 p.m. are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors, $10 for students
and children, and free for McKendree University students.
Judas & the Black Messiah (2021) – Wednesday, Feb. 23, 6 p.m., featuring ScreenTalk host Dr. Lauren Thompson, associate professor of history. Tickets
are free.
Bessie, Billie & Nina: Celebrating Women in Jazz – Monday, Feb. 28, 7:30 p.m. Backed by an all-female band, each star will celebrate the enduring legacies of Bessie
Smith, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone, some of the most influential and popular singers
who defied social norms to embrace self-empowerment through their art. Tickets are
$25 for adults, $23 for seniors, $10 for students and children, and free for McKendree
University students.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the rise of COVID-19 illnesses currently in the area, ETHEL + Robert Mirabal: The River, which was originally scheduled for Friday, Feb. 11 at McKendree University’s Hettenhausen
Center for the Arts, has been rescheduled. The show is now slated for Tuesday, May
3.
Patrons with tickets for the postponed event should hold their tickets, which will
be automatically moved over to the newly-scheduled date. If the new date is not convenient
to ticket holders, patrons may donate their tickets to the University or request a
refund.
