McKendree University Hosts Model UN Event for Sixteen Local High Schools
(LEBANON, Ill.,) - McKendree University hosted its 52nd-annual fall Model United Nations conference on its campus from November 13-14. Nearly 400 student delegates from 16 local high schools participated in this event. McKendree also has the sixth-longest running Model United Nationals conference in the country.
McKendree students ran the committees and organized the conference with Zane Phillips, an international relations major from Chambersburg, Ill., acting as the Security General of the program. Dr. Brian Frederking is the faculty advisor.
The high school students represented 58 countries on various UN committees and addressed several global security issues. Participating high schools include the following:

Model UN provides students with an opportunity to learn how the UN operates and to practice their public speaking, debate, negotiation and team leadership skills. Participants take on roles as diplomats representing a country, investigating international issues, negotiating with allies and adversaries, and developing solutions to world problems. Many of today’s leaders in law, government, business and the arts – including the UN itself – participated in Model UN as high school and college students.
