McKendree University Establishes NACWC Chapter
Collegiate Young Adult Club for Women of Color
(LEBANON, Ill., April 20, 2018) — McKendree University has established a Collegiate
Young Adult Club of the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs (NACWC) and
Youth Affiliates, Inc., America’s oldest African American women’s organization.
Eighteen McKendree students were inducted as inaugural members of the university’s
“ELITE” (Exceptional Ladies Impacting and Transforming with Elegance) chapter on April
15: Diamond Aaron, Chyanne Brown, Korinahe Bullock, Kiara Chapman, Mia Fiore, K’taria
Haynes, Bre’nye Johnson, Nahiela Magee, Kintasia Morris, Tatiana Nieves, Georgia Slaughter,
Ileanisse Soto, Brianca Spells, Shaneise Tally, Chanaya Thomas, Olivia White, Kristyon
Wilson, and Emiah Williams, who was installed as chapter president.
Dr. Pamela Manning, assistant professor of education at McKendree University, serves as the chapter advisor. Sharon Bridgeforth, the 29th NACWC national president, attended and participated in the celebration.
Established in 1986, the organization formed to unify efforts among black women to
confront racial injustice, education inequalities and a lack of job opportunities.
Its motto is “Lifting As We Climb.” The McKendree University chapter is the third
collegiate young adult club in the Southern District, joining those at the Edwardsville
and Carbondale campuses of Southern Illinois University.
