Live Music, Hot Wings and More at ‘Spring Fling’ Apr. 21
Lebanon, Ill. — A hot wings competition, live music featuring local and regional bands,
and more will be part of the fun at McKendree University’s Spring Fling on Saturday,
Apr. 21 from noon to 6 p.m.
The annual end-of-school-year event, which is becoming a McKendree tradition, is open
to the community. Inflatables and games, concession stands and more will be set up
on the campus quad, east of Alton Street in Lebanon.
Returning for a fourth year is the “Spring Fling Wing Thing.” Several local restaurants
will be on campus to compete for top honors and bragging rights. Among them are Mama
Gusto’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Jefferson’s, and last year’s winner of the “Bearcat Best
Wing,” 17th St. BBQ. Fair-goers can purchase tickets to sample wings and cast their votes for
the People’s Choice Award. Proceeds will benefit the purchase of Deployed Gift Boxes
for members of the armed forces through the Hope for Heroes organization.
Other events include a student wing-bobbing competition. “It’s a really short event,
but our students and the spectators really enjoy it,” said Craig Robertson, director
of campus activities “There’s just something entertaining about people picking wings
out of a baby pool filled with ranch dressing.”
A wide variety of music will be coming from the quad area as several bands will perform
on two stages. 28 Days, a band from the Chicago area, will kick things off at noon
on the Ames Stage. Additional bands scheduled to appear include Fivefold and Irony
Rains, with more bands to be announced.
Many games and inflatable activities are free of charge. Several McKendree Registered
Student Organizations will be on hand hosting fundraisers to assist their groups.
Concessions will be available for purchase. Lawn chairs are encouraged but coolers
and alcohol are prohibited. The event will not be rescheduled in case of rain cancellation.
