U.S. News Ranks McKendree in Top Tier of Midwest Regional Universities
Among Midwest’s Best for Value, Veterans and Social Mobility
(LEBANON, Ill., September 13, 2021) — McKendree University once again ranks in the
top tier of Midwest regional universities in U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 “Best
Colleges” edition, released on Sept. 13, 2021. U.S. News rated 596 participating institutions
in the Regional Universities category nationwide. McKendree remains among the top
third of the Best Regional Universities in the Midwest, at No. 54. U.S. News defines
this category as institutions that offer a broad scope of undergraduate and master’s
degree programs. The rankings are split into four regions: North, South, West and
Midwest.
Among Midwest regional universities, McKendree was also recognized for distinction
in other categories, including “Best Value Schools” at No. 37, “Best Colleges for
Veterans” at No. 23, and “Top Performer on Social Mobility” at No. 38,” up 20 spots
from last year.
McKendree is also included for the first time nationally on the “Best Undergraduate
Nursing Program” rankings. Universities are included and ranked in this standalone
peer assessment survey if they have bachelor’s-level accreditation by either the Commission
on Collegiate Nursing Education or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
In addition, these regionally accredited institutions must have recently awarded at
least 35 BSN degrees.
“It’s great to be recognized by U.S. News as a top tier University, but we are equally
proud of the personal connections that happen both inside and outside the classroom,”
said McKendree President Daniel C. Dobbins.
The 2022 U.S. News “Best Colleges” guidebook examines how accredited four-year institutions
nationwide compare among widely accepted indicators of excellence, assessing 17 measures
of academic quality. Statistical measures of quality also include student-faculty
ratio and the average federal load debt of graduates.
Over the past 37 years, the rankings have become a comprehensive tool for students
and their parents in their search for the right college or university. The full 2022 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings and data are now online at usnews.com/colleges.
