‘McKendree In The Field’ MAED Degree In Higher Education Administrative Services
2/8/2010
Chicago, Ill. — “McKendree In The Field,” a new program offered by historic McKendree
University at the Field Museum in Chicago, enables you to earn a Master of Arts in Education (MAED) degree in higher education administrative services in 18 months, taught by those at the
top of their profession.
Designed to link theory with practice, this innovative program is structured for full-time
working professionals seeking to advance their careers, aspiring to leadership roles
within colleges and universities, or making the transition from another occupation.
“Our challenging curriculum prepares students to be competent administrators able
to provide direction, leadership, and day-to-day management of a college or university,”
said Donald E. Fouts, Ph.D., the director of the McKendree Center for Higher Education
Management. “Consider it the MBA for university service professionals.”
He noted that according to the Bureau of Labor statistics, projected employment of
higher education administrators will increase 14 percent by 2016, as many current
administrators are expected to retire in the coming years. New administrators and
leaders today must be equipped with the expertise, knowledge and vision to steer institutions
into the future. College and universities will need skilled service providers to manage
finances and human resources, recruit and retain students, provide complex technological
support to students and faculty, and administer student services and development.
Classes are taught at the Field Museum every three weeks by seasoned faculty members
and high-level managers, such as Dr. Fouts, former president of the Federation of
Independent Illinois Colleges and Universities and an experienced advocate with deep
knowledge of the higher education system; Dr. John P. Minogue, former president of
DePaul University and a noted authority on institutional business processes; and Dr.
James W. Croft, executive vice president of the Field Museum, and an expert on higher
education budgeting and finance.
Class size is limited to encourage maximum interaction and collaboration.
The total cost of the program at the Field Museum is $21,000, including all fees and
instructional materials. Generous financial assistance is available for qualified
applicants through the William D. Ford Direct Loan Program. McKendree University staff
members can help you evaluate various financial aid options.
