Electronics and Appliance Recycling at McKendree on Nov. 14
National Recycling Week is November 12-18
Lebanon, Ill. — Get rid of old appliances and clutter in an eco-friendly, tax-deductible
way this fall. Drop off unwanted electronics, appliances and other items at the McKendree
University Green Team’s recycling drive on Wednesday, Nov. 14. It is one of several
events the Green Team is hosting on campus during National Recycling Week, Nov. 12
to 18.
The not-for-profit Web Innovations and Technology Services (WITS) agency will be at
the Lebanon campus between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Look for the tractor-trailer parked in
the lot near the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts on Alton Street in Lebanon.
Among the many items WITS accepts are computers, monitors, printers and cables; phones,
cameras, clocks, office and business equipment; electronics, furniture and home appliances
large and small, from washers and dryers to toasters and irons; lawn mowers, tools
and motors; car batteries, and lead items. Clothes, toys and shoes will also be accepted.
For a complete list of recyclables, visit the website witsinc.org and click on “Recycling.”
Paint, tires, wood furniture and chemicals will not be taken.
Donations are tax-deductible. Items are accepted free of charge but donations are
appreciated to help cover appropriate recycling costs, especially for larger items.
WITS refurbishes old computers and other electronics by fixing or replacing what may
be broken. Last year, it put more than 32,000 computers and appliances back to use
among to veterans, low-income students and those in need, to further their educational
and career goals. Anything beyond repair is recycled and nothing is sent to landfills
or shipped overseas.
For questions, visit www.witsinc.org or call the WITS office in St. Louis at (314) 382-1650, ext. 10.
