Human Resource Management Degree Program Meets SHRM Guidelines
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has announced that McKendree University’s
Bachelor of Business Administration degree in human resource management fully aligns
with SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates.
The degree is offered at the McKendree campuses in Lebanon, Ill., and Louisville and
Radcliff, Ky.; at the Center for Scott Air Force Base; and through the Accelerated
Instruction (AiM) and McKendree Online programs.
McKendree’s bachelor degree in human resource management is one of 260 programs in 209 educational institutions worldwide that has been acknowledged
by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates. The HR Curriculum
Guidebook and Templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum human resource
content areas that should be studied at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The
guidelines, created in 2006 and revalidated in 2010, are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative
to define human resource education standards taught in university business schools
and to help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.
“It is important for McKendree to adhere to guidelines set forth by the governing
bodies of relevant business areas. I am pleased that SHRM feels we are doing so in
the area of human resource management,” said Dr. Sandra Lang, School of Business chair.
McKendree’s BBA degree program offers a broad understanding of business operations
with an intense focus on human resource management. Course work includes the theory
and application of core business principles, personnel management and retention, employee
and labor relations, diversity management and organizational development. Students
develop problem-solving and team-building skills as they gain insight into ethical
and business issues.
