Leadership Scholarship Event Brings Academic Achievers to Campus
January 11, 2012
Lebanon, Ill. — More than 250 students from over 100 high schools throughout Illinois
and beyond will attend McKendree University’s annual Leadership Scholarship Event
on Jan. 28 and 29.
The Leadership Scholarship, which has a maximum value of $5,000 annually, is available
to students that have been awarded a McKendree University Presidential or Honors Scholarship
and attend the Leadership Scholarship Event. During the Leadership Event, students
will complete two personal interviews and submit an essay while they are on campus.
Presidential Scholarships, valued at $8,000 annually, are awarded to students at the
time of admission who have both a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) and a composite ACT
score of 22 or higher. Honors Scholarships, valued at $12,000 annually, awarded to
students at the time of admission who have both a 3.6 GPA and a composite ACT score
of 27 or higher.
“These students are academic achievers who are typically involved in an impressive
number of co-curricular activities,” said Chris Hall, vice president for admission and financial aid. “When awarding scholarships, we take every aspect of a student’s profile into consideration.
We’re looking for outstanding students who will contribute to the life of our campus
and benefit from the high academic quality that McKendree provides.”
During the interviews, panels of faculty, alumni, staff members and current McKendree
students learn a bit more about each applicant. There are also opportunities for students
and their families to meet with support service staff, ask questions, tour the campus
and explore what college life is like at McKendree.
