Investing or Doing Business in Asia? This Lecture is for You
Lebanon, Ill. — For over 25 years, Dennis Unkovic has helped U.S. companies establish
operations or sell their products in China and throughout Asia. He understands the
risks, challenges and cultural differences that affect a company’s chance for success
abroad. The international attorney, business advisor and author will share his expertise
on “Doing Business in Asia” on Monday, Sept. 16 from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at McKendree University’s
Hettenhausen Center. The talk is free and open to the public.
Unkovic is a partner with Pittsburgh-based the law firm of Meyer, Unkovic & Scott
LLP. He is actively involved in negotiating complex commercial transactions such as
foreign direct investment, international mergers and acquisitions, and creating strategic
alliances and joint ventures. He has had significant involvement in transactions in
China, India, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, Europe and Australia.
“Mr. Unkovic has helped to facilitate and guide entrepreneurial ventures worldwide,”
said Dr. Frank Spreng, professor of economics and director of the MBA program at McKendree.
“He is well known in international circles for his expertise as a legal advisor and
business consultant. I encourage anyone who has an interest in foreign trade and investment,
in doing business in Asia, or in Asian culture, to attend.”
Unkovic has written seven books and more than 150 articles, several of which have
been translated into Chinese and Japanese. He was asked by the American Bar Association to author “Understanding Asia: Winning
Strategies for Business Success,” which was published in late 2011. Most recently
he edited the third edition of “Successful Strategies for Doing Business in Asia,”
published in April.
He frequently speaks to business executives, trade associations, and government and academic
leaders on high profile international issues. In the last 30 years, he has given numerous
presentations in 50 countries. Among them was a talk he gave at McKendree about 25
years ago.
He returns to campus as the sixth participant in the university’s Wayne E. Lanter
Lecture Series, which brings influential business and entrepreneurial leaders to campus
to share their insight and strategies for success. “All of the participants in this
series have been important, dynamic players in the entrepreneurial world,” Spreng
noted. “We are fortunate to have Mr. Unkovic return to McKendree. He is truly an authority
on international business.”
