Hear the Marching Bearcat Band’s 2013 Season in Concert on Nov. 22
Lebanon, Ill. — McKendree University’s Marching Bearcat Band and PomCats Dance Team
will wrap up their highly successful season in a free concert on Friday, Nov. 22,
at 7:30 p.m. at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts. “This concert is a culmination
of our 2013 season, which encompasses our pre-game show, five halftime shows and music
learned specifically for this concert,” said David Boggs, director of bands.
Rather than playing a supporting role for McKendree’s Bearcat athletic programs, “this
is the one time where the Marching Bearcats, color guard, drumline and dance team
are the show,” Boggs said.
For a second straight year, the band returned to the Big Ten tradition of performing
five different half-time shows. In addition, it performed twice for almost 3,500 people
at the annual Preview of Champions Marching Band Competition; hosted Drum Corps International’s
“DCI St. Louis” event; Belleville East, Camdenton and LD Bell High School Marching
Band rehearsals; a “Band Member for a Day” program; and sponsored three Avidity Spin
Clinics. The drumline also performed at the “Shine the Light” campaign in St. Louis
and the “Tap Those Toes” Young Peoples' Concert on campus.
“Drum Majors Megan Zurliene and Tyler Jewell, the section leaders and seniors have
played integral roles in keeping the band focused and on track throughout the season,”
Boggs said. “Each band member has worked many, many hours towards this production.
This has been one of our best seasons yet.”
