'Rainbow Run' 5K Paint Race in Lebanon on April 26
Wear White, Finish Colorful!
Lebanon, Ill. — McKendree University’s first ever “Rainbow Run” 5K paint race through
the streets of Lebanon, Ill., is Saturday, April 26. Start time is 8:45 a.m., with
a pre-race briefing at 8 a.m.
A paint race is a just-for-fun, untimed, non-competitive run where runners and walkers
are sprayed with clouds of colored powder at intervals along the 5K (3.1 mile) route.
Runners wear white t-shirts but finish the race rainbow-colored from head to toe.
The colored dyes are baking soda-based, biodegradable and non-toxic.
The Rainbow Run will begin on campus and travel through nearby neighborhood streets
before heading north to Lebanon’s Horner Park and returning to the finish line back
on campus.
The event, to be held rain or shine, kicks off the annual end-of-semester “Spring
Fling” on campus, which includes live entertainment, games and food.
Registration is $25 ($20 for McKendree University students) in advance, with an additional
$5 for those who enter on race day. Sign up in person on campus at the intramural
gym in the Melvin Price Convocation Center on Alton St.; mail in the downloadable
registration form at www.mckendree.edu/wow; or register online (for a small fee) at active.com. Mailed entries must be postmarked
by April 19.
Proceeds will benefit the two university student organizations sponsoring the event,
the Wonders of Wellness and Spectrum Alliance, and the further advocacy of health
and wellness in the local community. “We wanted to bring the campus and community
together, and to bring people to campus to see what we’re about,” said McKendree senior
Ashley Duffie, the event organizer and president of the Wonders of Wellness organization.
Short-sleeve T-shirts, post-race refreshments and snacks will be provided while they
last.
