McKendree Announces New Competitive Dance Team
Tryouts for McKDT and PomCats March 19, 21, 22
(LEBANON, Ill., March 5, 2015) — McKendree University announces tryouts for the new
McKendree University Competitive Dance Team (McKDT).
McKDT provides an opportunity for high school dancers to continue their passion for
the sport, while using their dance technique and abilities to compete and perform
on a collegiate level. The team will perform at select community and game performances,
compete at the local and national level, and attend a summer camp in August, a weekly
technique class and weekly practices. Participation during some holidays and school
breaks is required.
Students must be able to commit approximately 15 to 20 hours per week while maintaining
the university’s grade eligibility requirement. Scholarships will be offered.
Dance team members are required to have previous experience and the following skills:
jazz, hip hop, and pom technique; and various turns and leaps with an emphasis on
performance and movement quality.
Becky Morgan, of Troy, Ill., has been hired to coach the new McKDT. She encourages
dancers to “become a part of McKendree’s newest program, continue your love for dance
and competition, and be a part of a dedicated and performance-driven team.”
The PomCats, McKendree’s non-competitive dance team, performs with the Marching Bearcat
Band and at basketball games. Tryouts are being held for both teams, however a student
can participate only on one or the other.
Tryouts, all of which are mandatory, will be held in the gymnasium on Thursday, March
19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Sunday, March
22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The gym is inside the Melvin Price Convocation Center on
Alton Street.
