'McKendree Reflections' Captures University History in Photos

Students Collaborate on Book of 350 Photographs, Past and Present

(LEBANON, Ill., February 10, 2015) — “McKendree Recollections,” a limited edition coffee table book, including many rarely seen photographs illustrating McKendree University’s 187-year history, is now available to purchase.

The 8.5 x 11-inch hard cover book features more than 350 photographs documenting academics, the arts, student life, athletics and McKendree during wartime.

The collaborative project was a yearlong labor of love for three history majors: senior Andrew Olden and 2014 graduates Meghan Dohogne and Tim Rose. The students wanted to share the wealth of images they had discovered by working and volunteering in the university’s archives and museum. They received encouragement and support for their proposal from their history professor, Dr. Patrick Folk, and McKendree President Jim Dennis.

“I knew they were asking to do precisely what we hope all of our students will accomplish—to take what they have learned and apply it,” Dennis wrote in the foreword. “McKendree (has) many stories to tell. Our archives are filled with pictures which capture this rich history but are largely stored to preserve their images and as a result, are rarely displayed or viewed.”

Published by Reedy Press in St. Louis, the 128-page book costs $46 if picked up or $50 if mailed. For information, call (618) 537-6443 or email lakuper@mckendree.edu.
