MLK Chapel Service, Humanitarian Awards on Jan. 22
(LEBANON, Ill., January 16, 2015) - McKendree University will celebrate the spirit
and legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King and present Humanitarian Awards
to two students and a staff member at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22 in Bothwell Chapel
on campus. The public is welcome to attend.
The university’s annual Humanitarian Awards will be presented to three members of
the campus community who demonstrate humanitarian qualities and the philosophy of
nonviolent social change advocated by Dr. King. Receiving the honor are Ranodore Foggs,
director of public safety; and two McKendree students, junior Jeremiah Wilkins of
St. Louis and senior Taylor Cope of Bloomington, Ill.
Keynote preacher for the event will be Father Maurice Nutt. Born and raised in St.
Louis, he currently serves as director of the Institute for Black Catholic Studies
at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans. McKendree’s Gospel Choir and the
Sister Thea Bowman Liturgical Dancers will also perform.
