Study Finds McKendree 'Most Promising Place to Work in Student Affairs'
(LEBANON, Ill., February 27, 2015) — For the second consecutive year, a national study
focusing on workplace diversity, staffing and work environment in higher education
has named McKendree University among the 17 “Most Promising Places to Work in Student
Affairs.”
The Ohio State University’s Center for Higher Education Enterprise (CHEE) conducted
the study in partnership with the magazine Diverse: Issues in Higher Education and the American College Personnel Association-College Student Educators International.
Researchers used a web-based survey to examine categories such as family friendliness,
salary and benefits, and professional development opportunities. Findings were published
in the Feb. 26 edition of Diverse.
“This study yields insight into diversity in the study affairs workplace and offers
a useful tool for employers, career services staff and job seekers across the country.
We hope it continues to serve as a tool for the profession,” said CHEE principal investigator
Dr. Terrell Strayhorn, of The Ohio State University.
“McKendree provides many resources to help develop an appreciation and understanding
of inclusion,” said Dr. Joni Bastian, vice president of student affairs at McKendree,
citing a recent workshop on “Creating a Culture Committed to Social Justice and Equity”
as an example. “We support professional development for staff so they may facilitate
deeper conversations about diversity with our students.”
