McKendree is Among Best Colleges for Student Voting in 2020
(LEBANON, Ill., September 11, 2020) — The Washington Monthly has named McKendree University
to its “Best Colleges for Student Voting 2020” list. A total of 157 schools made the
fifth student voting honor roll list this year, 18 more than on the previous list
released in February, and nearly twice the number from last year.
The Monthly used information from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge and information from
the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE) to compile its fifth
student voting honor roll. The non-partisan ALL IN works with institutions to develop
school-specific student voting action plans. NSLVE, based at Tufts University, objectively
examines student and institution-level data on student voting, calculates registration
numbers and turnout rates, and shares the data with participating schools to track
their progress.
According to the Washington Monthly, “the listed schools have shown a repeated commitment to increasing student voting,
have been transparent about the results, and have met multiple criteria.” These include
submitting an ALL IN action plan in 2018 and 2020; signing up to receive NSLVE data
about their campus voter registration and turnout rates; and making their 2016 and
2018 NSLVE data available to the public.
