Eggleston is Commended for 10 Years as HLC Peer Reviewer
She Evaluates Higher Education Institutions for Accrediting Organization
(LEBANON, Ill., May 12, 2020) — Dr. Tami Eggleston, associate provost for institutional effectiveness and professor of psychology at McKendree University, recently completed her 10th year of service as a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The
HLC is an independent corporation founded in 1895 as one of six regional institutional
accreditors in the U.S. It accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions
in the 19-state North Central region.
The commission relies on the work of approximately 1,600 volunteer peer reviewers
for its accrediting activities. Like Eggleston, most are full-time faculty and administrators
from HLC member institutions who serve as agents of HLC in its evaluation and decision-making
processes. Peer reviewers share their knowledge and experience to assuring that institutions
comply with HLC accreditation criteria. They also help institutions improve their
academic quality and advance their mission. Peer reviews range from on-site team visits
to online panel evaluations.
“I have learned so much from being an HLC peer reviewer,” said Eggleston, who has
been a McKendree faculty member since 1996. “As associate provost for institutional
effectiveness, I try to ensure that McKendree University is meeting the HLC criteria
and operating with best practices related to mission, integrity, teaching effectiveness,
assessment, and planning.”
The HLC thanked her for bringing her “time, intellect and experience” to the core
values of its organization and awarded her a Certificate of Excellence for 10 years
of outstanding service.
