McKendree Gallery of Art Announces Ex-Spiration, a Student Exhibition

The McKendree University Gallery of Art is pleased to announce its juried student exhibition, Ex-Spiration. Ex-Spiration is a virtual exhibition of student artwork completed in the Fall 2020 semester. The exhibition includes 31 artworks created by 16 artists and is viewable online only via the link on the gallery main page at www.mckendree.edu/artgallery

The exhibition was juried by Crystal Vicars, a painter and collage artist from the Indianapolis area.  She received her MFA in Painting with Distinction, from Indiana State University (2009) and her BFA in Painting from Indiana State University (2003). Currently, she is an assistant professor and gallery director for the Department of Art and Design at Marian University in Indianapolis. 


Award winners are: 


$100 First Place: Summer Brooks, for Ambrosia, spray foam, spray paint, wood, plastic, plushies 

$75 Second Place: Allison Carnell, for October in the Park, oil on canvas 

$50 Third Place: Dea'veon Harden-Smith, for Ready Player 1, digital photo 

$25 Honorable Mentions: 

Mackenzie Mendenhall, for Rococo Woman, digital design 

Meina Rice, for Girl Staring Out, digital design 

Abigail Rumpp, for Mushroom Valley, collage, ink 

Alex Tinnin, for Ostrich Friend, watercolor on paper 

Rio Tomlinson, for 1828, graphite on paper 


The McKendree University Gallery of Art exhibits work by McKendree University students, faculty, and artists in the greater Midwest region. The gallery was founded in 2012 thanks to the generosity of the family of Marsha Brasel DeWilde (1957-2012). The McKendree University Gallery of Art has hosted more than 60 artist exhibitions since opening in 2011.
