#GivingTuesday on Nov. 27 Promotes Philanthropy via Social Media
McKendree University Sets a One-Day Goal of 900 Donors
(LEBANON, Ill., November 9, 2018) — McKendree University hopes to receive 900 or more
gifts in a 24-hour period on its fourth annual #GivingTuesday, an international day
of philanthropy on Nov. 27. Reaching this goal will unlock an additional $30,000 for
McKendree University in matching gifts.
Giving Tuesday, also referred to as #GivingTuesday, kicks off the charitable giving
season followed by the widely recognized shopping events, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
“Fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, there are many ways that alumni,
students, parents and friends can give back to McKendree on #GivingTuesday,” explained
Holly Sallee, director of annual giving and advancement services. “While celebrating
the 190th year of university history, McKendree hopes that 190 first-time givers will join
the movement this year. Making a gift and spreading the word doubles the impact of
the gift itself.” Last year, 882 donors contributed $112,343 #GivingTuesday gifts
to the university.
“We hope to build on the success of previous years,” said Victoria Dowling, senior
vice president. “We encourage our alumni, students, parents, friends and others in
the community to join us and to give to McKendree University on Nov, 27.”
Gifts made on #GivingTuesday will be directed to the university’s Annual Fund, which
supports, in part, student scholarships and financial aid, student services, academic
instruction and areas of greatest need. Donations may be made online, by phone or
email. Follow #190ReasonsToGive on Twitter or visit mckendree.edu/givingtuesday to
