#GivingTuesday on Dec. 1 Celebrates 'One McKendree'
(LEBANON, Ill., November 5, 2020) — On Dec. 1, McKendree University will participate
in its sixth annual #GivingTuesday, a global movement that encourages generosity among
individuals, communities and organizations. Each year on #GivingTuesday, millions
of people worldwide give back to change their communities.
The theme for the 2020-2021 school year is “One McKendree,” a term coined by President
Daniel Dobbins, which represents unity among the university community. “The time is
now! The McKendree community needs to rally together even though we’re socially distanced,”
said Holly Sallee, director of annual giving and advancement systems, who is organizing
the #GivingTuesday initiative. “McKendree alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students
and friends from different backgrounds, values and passions still share the same purpose:
to provide a high-quality educational experience to outstanding students.”
As current students face an academic year unlike any other, the need for additional
support is critical. Faculty and staff also require resources to adapt to ongoing
changes and to maintain the university’s high-quality programming and services. Gifts
made toward the #GivingTuesday campaign can impact a variety of areas at McKendree
which include, but are not limited to:
-
The Annual Fund, which supports, in part, student scholarships and financial aid, student services, academic instruction and areas of greatest need.
-
The Hettenhausen Center for the Arts
-
Academic departments
-
Bearcat athletic teams
-
Student organizations and co-curricular activities
“All members of the McKendree community and beyond are encouraged to have a hand in
this day,” said Sallee. “We all have gifts to give and with social media, online giving,
delivery, mail and phones, there are multiple ways to use your generosity to support
McKendree University on #GivingTuesday. Make a gift to an area close to your heart,
spread the word to your fellow Bearcats, or become an Online Ambassador for McKendree!”
