The idea lab Returns to the Hett on March 19

(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 11, 2019) — A YouTube historian, a famous soprano, a relationship counselor, an international politics expert and a creative coach-consultant will present at McKendree University’s idea lab. Returning after a successful 2016 debut, the event will be held at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts (The Hett) on Tuesday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m.

Modeled after the popular TED Talks, the idea lab features five 12- to 16-minute presentations designed to educate, inform, inspire and entertain. Tickets are $5 for general admission seating and free for McKendree University students, faculty and staff members. The 2019 lineup is as follows:

 

  • Easy: A New Paradigm for Relationships – Clinical social worker Amy Miller specializes in communication, conflict resolution and relationships. She believes that “Doing Relationships Well” is a skill we can develop using authenticity and vulnerability.

  • Hierarchies and Networks: Explaining our Current Political Divide - Brian Frederking is an authority on international law, international organizations and U.S. foreign policy. The McKendree University professor of political science has written more than 20 scholarly publications and two books, “The United States and the Security Council” and “Resolving Security Dilemmas.”

  • Birgit or Bust! - Grammy Award-winning operatic soprano Christine Brewer has performed on the world’s great stages. A highly sought-after recording artist, her discography includes more than 25 albums including her latest, “Words to Music,” featuring songs sung to texts by St. Louis poet Eugene Field.

  • Louis on the Home Front: War Economics and the St. Louis Glider Accident of 1943 - Lance Geiger is “The History Guy” on YouTube, where he tells forgotten stories of ancient and modern events “that deserve to be remembered.” His award-winning channel has garnered more than nine million views and 245,000 subscribers.

  • Astrology and History- Your Resource for Crazy Times - Wendy Hornung combines her eye for talent with innovative strategies to help you see “what’s right about you” in order to reach your highest potential
