(LEBANON, Ill., July 18, 2017) — McKendree University will take part in a volunteer
day called “Into the Streets” on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Approximately
400 incoming students will participate in service to local communities. Students will
be assigned to one of about 20 sites in Lebanon, Germantown, Breese and East St. Louis.
Activities will include working with the elderly, homeless, and people with disabilities,
as well as providing physical labor for community beautification and restoration projects.
Organizations which will benefit include the Lebanon Matthew Ministries Food Pantry,
Lebanon Winter Wonderland, Catholic Urban Programs, Christian Activity Center, Community
Link, Mascoutah Senior Center and the Lebanon Garden Club.
“Into the Streets” is part of new student orientation for incoming McKendree students.
Coordinated by the university’s Lyn Huxford Center for Community Service, it enables
students to build relationships though service, and to learn about the help they can
provide and opportunities for continued volunteer work. For more information, contact
the Office of Student Affairs on campus at 618-537-6854.
