McKendree University's 'Into the Streets' Volunteer Day is Aug. 24
(LEBANON, Ill., August 13, 2019) — Hundreds of incoming McKendree University students
will participate in community service throughout Lebanon on Saturday, Aug. 24 from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the annual “Into the Streets” volunteer day. Various sites
will be assigned during a 9 a.m. meeting at the Melvin Price Convention Center on
campus.
The students will work with the elderly and children, help at the local food pantry,
and perform physical labor for community beautification and restoration. Volunteer
sites and organizations include the Lebanon Emerald Mound Fire Department, the police
station, Lebanon Elementary School, Lebanon High School, Cedar Ridge Residential and
Rehabilitation Center, McAllister Park, Winter Wonderland/Horner Park, Help for Mom
preschool and day care, Lebanon Matthew 25:40 Ministries, Mt. Olive Baptist Church,
St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Paul United Church of Christ and the Lebanon Garden
Club.
“Into the Streets” is part of the New Student Orientation program for incoming students,
coordinated by the Lyn Huxford Center for Community Service (CCS).
