McKendree University Kentucky Graduates Receive Their Diplomas

Student and Faculty Awards Presented at Commencement

(RADCLIFF, Ky., June 29, 2018) — The Class of 2018 graduates of McKendree University in Kentucky received their diplomas and awards were presented at a commencement ceremony held on June 2 at the First Christian Church in Elizabethtown, Ky.

Jason Wade, of Cecelia, Ky., received the “Spirit of McKendree” Award for academic excellence, character and community mindedness. The charge nurse at Hardin Memorial Hospital graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, managing a full course load while working full-time. As a health professional, he was awarded the Daisy Award and Physician’s Choice Award, some of the highest honors in his field. He is an active member of Hardin Memorial’s Professional Development Council, working on changes to Hardin Memorial’s Charge Nurse Workshop given throughout the year. He is also involved in volunteer programs, including Feeding America, the Angel Tree, and the annual Trunk or Treat with his unit.

The Outstanding Faculty of the Year Award was given to Dr. Millard Dunn, who joined McKendree in 1977 as a part-time associate faculty member, teaching undergraduate English, writing, literature, art history and film courses. Students remarked on his extensive knowledge and experience, passion for the subject matter, and willingness to assist them and to “go the extra mile.” 

Dunn graduated magna cum laude from Duke University and received a Ph.D. from Indiana University. He is a professor of English emeritus at Indiana University Southeast, where he taught for 33 years. He has also taught at Washington and Lee University.

He is a published author of poems and short fiction, which have appeared in several literary publications. His most recent book, published in 2011, is a collection of poems called “Places We Could Never Find Alone.”
