Leadership Scholarship Day Welcomes 200 Students
McKendree University welcomes 200 high school students and their families to campus
for Leadership Scholarship Day on Dec. 2. Hailing from 120 high schools, these students
are academic achievers who are typically involved in an impressive number of co-curricular
activities.
The Leadership Scholarship, which has a maximum value of $5,000 annually, is available
to students who have been awarded a McKendree University Presidential or Honors Scholarship
and who attend the Leadership Scholarship Event. During the event, students take part
in two interviews and submit an essay.
Presidential Scholarships, valued at $10,000 annually, are awarded to those who at
the time of admission have both a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA) and a total
SAT score of 1100 or higher. Honors Scholarships, valued at $13,000 annually, are
awarded to students who at the time of admission have both a minimum 3.6 GPA and a
total SAT score of 1280 or higher.
“When awarding scholarships, we take every aspect of a student’s profile into consideration,”
said Chris Hall, vice president for admission and financial aid. “We’re looking for
outstanding students who will contribute to the life of our campus and benefit from
the high academic quality that McKendree provides.”
During the interviews, panels of faculty, alumni and staff members learn a bit more
about each applicant. Students and their families have opportunities to meet with
support service staff, ask questions, tour the campus and explore what college life
is like at McKendree.
