McKendree University Announces Phased Relocation to Shepherdsville

Classes to Remain at Linn Station Road Through 2016

(LOUISVILLE, Ky., October 15, 2015) - McKendree University has announced it will begin to phase relocation of its Louisville campus to the College and Career Center at Bullitt Central High School (BCHS) in Shepherdsville. The university is making the transition in response to the shifting demographic needs of greater Jefferson and Bullitt Counties. Classes will remain at the 10168 Linn Station Road location for current Louisville students through December 2016.

“Shepherdsville and the greater Bullitt County region have experienced significant growth in population, business and industry in recent years,” said Christian Blome, executive director of McKendree University’s Kentucky campuses. “The migration of business and industry, and the changing needs of the area’s adult students, now reveals that Shepherdsville is where we can best continue to serve the region.”

For over 40 years, McKendree has adapted to the changing needs of the metropolitan area by offering degree programs in locations relevant to the area’s economy and students, Blome noted. In 1973, classes were held downtown in the Lincoln Federal Building. As enrollment dictated, additional space was used in the Federal Building until 1991, when the campus relocated to the east side of Louisville at 11850 Commonwealth Drive. In 2009, due to enrollment shifts, the university moved to its current location on Linn Station Road. McKendree also operates a campus in Radcliff.

The university received approval in June from the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education to deliver courses at BCHS. “We are proud to partner with Bullitt Central High School to deliver college courses,” said Blome. “This partnership will provide local adults an opportunity to complete their bachelor’s degree close to home in a face-to-face format. Students can focus on one class at a time and complete a college course each month. They will benefit from a strong McKendree curriculum, affordable tuition, an accelerated monthly format, and a new facility with over 32,000 square feet.

“The Bullitt County Public Schools (BCPS) have created innovative and cutting edge college and career facilities at each of their three high schools. This investment in infrastructure is matched by the commitment of BCPS that their graduates will leave their high school programs being college or career ready.”
