University Receives ELITE Award from Center for Racial Harmony
(LEBANON, Ill., October 27, 2015) — The Center for Racial Harmony honored McKendree
University on Oct. 25 with its ELITE Award for significant contributions it has made
to the local community.
ELITE stands for Extraordinary Leaders Impacting Today’s Environment. The award recognizes
outstanding citizens and organizations in the St. Louis metropolitan area for the
work they do in their schools, churches, families and communities.
“McKendree University brings together faculty, staff, students and community members
from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives to engage in a mutual exchange of ideas
and experiences, to encourage respect and understanding of human and cultural differences,
and to embrace many viewpoints,” said Dr. James Dennis, president.” From class curricula,
to guest speakers, to interfaith programs, to film discussions, to our Global Awareness
Week activities, we offer a variety of activities that allow our students to experience
and celebrate diverse perspectives.”
The Center for Racial Harmony in Swansea, Ill., works in partnership with community
leaders, local schools, churches and neighborhood associations to offer programs and
services that promote understanding, cooperation and communications among all races
and ethnic groups.
