McKendree Show Choir Presents 'Carmen' April 23-24
(LEBANON, Ill., April 4, 2016) — A well-known globe hopping villainess in red is the
inspiration for “Carmen,” the McKendree University Show Choir’s 2016 finale, presented
April 23-24 at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts on campus.
Featuring songs from Whitney Houston, Muse and the musical “Jekyll & Hyde,” “‘Carmen’
is an original storyline based on the beautiful and sassy criminal mastermind Carmen
Sandiego,” said Adam Pulver, Show Choir director.
Kaitlyn Pennington, a junior from Creal Springs, Ill., stars in the title role, joined
by Elizabeth Inman, a sophomore from Sullivan, Ill., and Kiana Beverly, a first-year
from Oak Park, Ill., as her evil sidekicks. Music for the show has been arranged by
Robert Allen.
Opening with a masquerade ball in Gotham City, “Carmen” features strobe and flash
lighting, and occasional loud sound effects, therefore the show is appropriate for
age 10 and older, said Pulver.
Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The April 23 premiere is a black tie optional affair.
Admission is $5 (free for McKendree students). For ticket information, visit the Hett
box office Monday through Friday between noon and 4 p.m., call 618-537-6863, or go
online at theHett.com.
McKendree’s approximately 40-member Show Choir combines vocals, choreography, staging,
costuming and production in versatile, entertaining performances of songs from different
genres, from gospel to Broadway. “Our program offers students the training and resources
to enhance their performing arts abilities by producing elaborate shows and serving
the community through music,” said Pulver, who quickly made a name for McKendree in
show choir circles after his arrival in 2013. The university has offered over $1 million
in Show Choir Scholarships to students of all majors.
