McKendree University Designated a Voter Friendly Campus by NASPA and Campus Vote Project
(LEBANON, Ill., March 30, 2023) – McKendree University was recently named a Voter
Friendly Campus, one of 258 campuses in 38 states and the District of Columbia, by
Fair Elections Center’s Campus Vote Project and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators
in Higher Education. The initiative recognizes institutions that have planned and
implemented practices that encourage their students to register and vote in the 2022
elections and in coming years. McKendree is one of seven higher-learning institutions
in Illinois to earn this designation this year.
The mission of the 2023 Voter Friendly Campus designation is to bolster colleges’
and universities’ efforts to help students overcome barriers to participating in the
political process every year, not just during years featuring elections. McKendree’s
efforts, even during a non-national election year, to break down barriers and empower
students with the information and tools they need to participate in the political
process led to tremendous youth voter turnout and opened the door to lifelong civic
engagement for its students.
“We’re happy to be designated as a Voter Friendly Campus once more,” said Dr. Ann
Collins, professor of political science at McKendree University. “We enjoy working
with partners who help us foster civic engagement at McKendree. Our students are passionate
about the issues facing our country and world today, and they are motivated to use
their voices and the ballot box to find solutions. I’m optimistic about the future
because our students realize they are a powerful force in their communities.”
McKendree has made a strong statement about their civic mission to prepare students
to be engaged participants in our democracy and is eager to continue engaging students
through 2023 and beyond.
The institutions designated Voter Friendly Campuses represent a wide range of two-year,
four-year, public, private, rural and urban campuses, collectively serving over 3.5
million students. To view the results, please visit https://www.voterfriendlycampus.org/campus-designees-2024.
