Below are answers to frequently asked questions we get from students and faculty.
Student FAQs
What is a proctored quiz/exam?
A proctored quiz or exam is simply a quiz or exam that is supervised by someone who
verifies the identity of the student and watches over the student while they are completing
the assigned work. It is a way to ensure the enrolled students are the ones actually
taking the exam and to remove the opportunity for cheating.
Proctored quizzes or exams are sometimes necessary for students who missed regularly
scheduled work due to a university-sponsored event (athletic competition, required
course field trip, research symposium, etc).
Instructors grade their own quizzes and examinations. The student and the instructor
are the only people able to see the individual’s grade.
How do I set up an appointment?
1. Contact your instructor if you know you will miss a scheduled quiz or exam.
2. AFTER speaking to your instructor, set up an appointment for a proctored quiz/exam. Email your instructor and provide them with the date and
time of your exam appointment.
3. If you find that none of the available appointment times work for you, please
contact your instructor to make alternate arrangements. While the Testing Center strives
to meet the needs of all students, we are not able to staff the Center 24/7.
What do I do on the day of my testing appointment?
Bring your McKendree ID and any items that you need for the exam (pencil, calculator, etc.) with you to your appointment. Plan ahead
and arrive 5-10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. Bring Kleenex, if
you think you’ll need it during the exam, stop by the restroom, etc. Once you start
the exam, you will be required to remain in the Testing Center until your work is
complete.
You will be asked to leave all belongings, including your cell phone, book bag, purse,
notebooks, tablets, hat, coats, sunglasses, etc. with Testing Services staff. It will
be your responsibility to retrieve your belongings before you leave.
If students require specific resources or materials to complete the exam, it MUST be clearly stated by the instructor on the testing materials provided to the Testing
Center staff.
Be aware that Testing Center staff work to maintain test integrity. They may be moving
quietly throughout the room during your exam. This is simply for the purposes of completing
their job and is not meant to distract you from your work.
After your work is complete, hand in all testing materials to the Testing Center staff.
The staff member will seal the exam and return it to the instructor or faculty secretary.
What if I have an IEP or require specific testing accommodations?
No problem! We are here to help ensure that your needs are met. Simply contact Carol
Erickson, Academic Resource Coordinator, at caerickson@mckendree.edu or (618) 537-6901. She will work with the Testing Center staff and the student to
help create an ideal testing environment. We collaborate together to do all we can
to promote success of all McKendree students!
Student who need a Reader or Scribe for their tests will schedule their testing appointment in the Reader/Scribe/Individualized Testing schedule.
Faculty FAQs
The Testing Center aims to support both students and faculty. Students are required

Center. The Testing Center will be staffed throughout each regular academic week of
the semester. A variety of daytime appointments are available. Please contact Carol
Erickson, Academic Resource Coordinator, at caerickson@mckendree.edu or (618) 537-6901 for further information.
What do I do if a student says they are going to miss a quiz or test in my class for a university-sponsored event?
1. Direct the student to register for a Testing Center appointment via our online scheduler.
2. Email the exam or quiz to be proctored to Testing_Center@mckendree.edu. You will be notified by email when it has been received.
3. After the exam has been completed on the scheduled date, the exam/quiz items will
scanned and sent to the faculty and also be available for pick up. We ask that faculty
do their best ot have a form of Goverment issued I.D or their McKendree I.D on them
when coming to pick up exams.
I have an unexpected situation and I would like the Testing Center to proctor my pre-scheduled
exam in my classroom. Is that possible?
Sorry! Unfortunately, we do not have staff available to proctor for these situations.
My student reported that he/she took the exam; however, it has not been sent to me.
What is the next step?
Please contact Carol Erickson, Academic Resource Coordinator, at caerickson@mckendree.edu or (618) 537-6901.
My student is taking a two-part exam with one being the conventional paper-based exam
and the other being a different type of test. What can I do?
If additional testing materials are required, we ask that you bring it to the Student
Success and Advising Center at least 48 hours in advance of the exam.
If a student needs testing accommodations and is not already registered through Disability
Services, please ask the student to contact Carol Erickson, Academic Resource Coordinator,
at caerickson@mckendree.edu or (618) 537-6901.
What should I do if I need to change the end date for a quiz or exam or need to change
some other information that I previously submitted to the Testing Center?
Please email the requested changes to Testing_Center@mckendree.edu.
What happens if the student doesn’t take the exam before the expiration date?
For your convenience and the integrity of the test, the expired test will be shredded.
