MAED in Teacher Leadership Licensure gives you the ability to take on new management
roles outside the classroom. From positions such as department chair and athletic
director to dean of students and curriculum team leader, you will gain the skills
you need to grow your career in education leadership.

The Teacher Leadership Licensure program consists of 32 hours of course work.

Format
McKendree’s MAED in Teacher Leadership Licensure is designed specifically for full-time
educators, whose jobs and personal responsibilities are just as important as their
educational goals. This program is offered 100% online, through asynchronous and synchronous
learning, with the majority of the courses offered in an eight-week format. Some courses
are designed in a 16-week format to meet the requirements of the class.
Internship
See what it is really like to work in a leadership role by shadowing a certified school
administrator for a semester, all while continuing to teach at your own job site.
You will develop helpful networking contacts and grow your list of portfolio activities
as you observe school leadership firsthand.

Leadership Theory: In this course, you will develop your skills to become a visionary school leader and how you can use that vision to improve an entire organization. Students will learn about practices to improve teaching and learning for all students, including gifted, special needs, early childhood, and at-risk learners.

School and Community Relations: Find out how effective leaders in education work with parents, community leaders, government officials, media, and local organizations to create beneficial partnerships that creates a learning environment leading to student growth.
Admission Requirements
McKendree University admits students who present evidence of their potential to complete
graduate level work. Applicants are considered on an individual basis without regard
to sex, race, disability, nationality, sexual orientation, or religion. The following
documentation is required for consideration of admission:
1. A completed graduate admission application (no fee).
2. A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
3. Official transcripts from each college or university attended. Official transcripts are those sent from institution to institution.
4. A minimum 3.0 GPA on a four-point scale in undergraduate studies.
5. A current resume or vita.
6. Three professional references.
7. Essay describing the personal and professional goals that will be met by completion of the degree.
Teacher Leadership Licensure Requirements
The following Teacher Leadership Licensure requirement will be verified at the time
of admission to the university:
- Evidence of a valid and current Illinois teaching certificate (e.g., early childhood, elementary, secondary, special K-12, or special preschool-age 21 certificates).
