Summer and Winter Break Housing Information

Needing to stay during a break period? We've got you covered.

Short Breaks

Students staying for Fall, Thanksgiving, Easter, or Spring Breaks are welcome to stay for the entire break period at no extra cost. During these breaks, Dining Services, and other campus offices may be closed. Please plan ahead to make sure all of your needs are taken care of. 

The Office of Residence Life needs at a minimum 1 week to completely process requests for break housing.  Incoming residents are encouraged to complete their requests/applications as early as possible. 

 

Winter Break

Students needing to stay for the Winter Break are welcome to apply to stay for part of or the entire break period. Students must sign-up to be approved to stay during the winter break. In addition, several campus offices will be closed during the break period.  Students should plan ahead to make sure all of their needs will be taken care of over the entire break.

Student apply on The ResLife Portal which they can access from their MyMcK page starting November 1.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Students must meet ALL of the following qualifications to be approved for winter break housing:

          • Be registered at McKendree University for a minimum of 12 credit hours for the Spring 2026 semester prior to December 1.
          • Have a placement in McKendree University housing for the Spring semester.
          • Be in good judicial standing - students with a hold, probation, suspension, or expulsion will not be permitted to live in winter break housing without special permission.
              • Students with a hold or who are on probation can be approved at the discretion of the Assistant Director or Director of Residence Life.

ELIGIBILITY

Students must meet at least one of the follow reasons to be eligible to stay in winter break housing:

            • Involved in University activities which require proximity
            • Enrolled in winter break classes at McKendree University or cooperative program
            • Registered for an internship through McKendree University's Office of Career Services
            • Employed on campus or off campus within 30 miles
            • Maintain international status through the Office of International Student Services
            • Lacks or is at imminent risk of lacking a fixed, regular, and nighttime residence.

RATES

The Winter Housing rate is a flat $25 per day rate.

When Dining Services are open, a Winter Break Meal Plan will be implemented and students will receive notification of the cost for that plan in emails and on the Winter Break registration form.

The Office of Residence Life is closed and the only available method of getting assistance is by calling the RA on Duty at 618-304-6366 or Public Safety at 618-537-6911.

Monday, January 5, 2026, at 8:00 AM

The Office of Residence Life is opening and regular business hours commence.

Friday, January 9, 2026 at 1:00 PM

Winter Break Housing ends and housing for the Spring semester begins at 1:00 pm.

 

 

Summer Break

Summer housing is located at McKendree West and will be available May - August in apartment with two shared bedrooms.

Students apply on The ResLife Portal, which they can access from their MyMcK page starting March 1.

Students must meet ALL of the following qualifications to be approved for summer housing:

          • Have a zero balance with McKendree University prior to May 1.
          • Be registered at McKendree University for a minimum of 12 credit hours for the following fall semester prior to May 1, unless graduating in July/August.
          • Have either lived in McKendree University housing in Spring 2026 or have a placement in housing for the Fall 2026 semester.
          • Be in good judicial standing - students with a hold, probation, suspension, or expulsion will not be permitted to live in summer housing.
              • Students with a hold or who are on probation can be approved at the discretion of the Assistant Director of Student Life.

ELIGIBILITY

Students must meet at least one of the following reasons to be eligible to stay in summer housing:

        • Enrolled in summer classes at McKendree University or a cooperative program
        • Registered for an internship through McKendree University's Office of Career Services
        • Employed on campus or off campus within 50 miles of McKendree University
        • Involved in University activities that require proximity to campus (not employment)
        • Maintain international status through the Office of International Student Services
        • Lacks or is at imminent risk of lacking a fixed, regular, and nighttime residence or has been a youth-in-care

RATES

The summer housing rates are:

              • May 9th to May 31st - $550.00
              • June 1st to June 30th - $750.00
              • July 1st to July 31st- $775.00
                  • This amount for July will be prorated for those residents who must check out by July 25th
              • August 1st to August 20th - $525.00

There are no single rooms available for the Summer of 2026 except for those students with a medical accommodation.

When Dining Services are open in August, an Early Arrival Meal Plan will be implemented and students will receive notification of the cost for that plan via email. 

 

SUMMER HOUSING SCHEDULE

Students are expected to know all dates and make appropriate arrangements to accommodate the schedule below.  Personal requests for vacations, etc., will not be accommodated.

Friday, May 8, 2026, at 5:00 PM

  

All Residence Halls are closed except for students registered for Summer Housing or Extended Stay

Friday, May 15, 2026, from 9:00 AM -      5:00 PM

 

Residents on the main campus start the transition to the West Apartments for Summer Housing, and as many West residents transition to their summer placement as possible, depending on the custodial staff’s progression.

Staff are available from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at McK West Clubhouse on Friday to provide and collect keys. Outside of those times residents will need to contact the Resident Assistant on duty at 618-975-4386.

Note: Due to the Summer Conferences and Camps as well as construction schedules, some residents may be required to move earlier or later and will be notified via email if this is necessary.

Tuesday, June 30, 2026 

 

Last day to request summer housing.  The application will close on this day.

Thursday, July 24, 2026, from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

 

Summer Housing students will begin to collect their keys for their fall assignment & begin moving in to their belongings.

Note: Due to the Early Arrival and Fall Athletics schedule and/or construction schedules, some residents may be required to move earlier or later and will be notified via email if this is necessary.

Sunday, July 26, 2026, by 5:00 PM

 

Summer Housing students must have their move to their fall assignment completed & have checked out of their Summer Housing assignment, unless other arrangements have been made with the Office of Residence Life.

Any student who does not have housing for the Fall semester (summer graduate's, approved waivers, etc.) will need to check out by this date so that custodial can have the rooms cleaned before the arrival of the Fall semester residents.  July bill will be prorated.
