Kyle Garrett Wins Technos International Prize
Kyle Garrett ’22 of Troy, Ill., is this year’s recipient of the Technos International Prize. The award
was presented on May 13 during the undergraduate commencement ceremony, where Kyle
graduated with a degree in chemistry.
Kyle plans to attend a Ph.D. program in chemistry at the University of Michigan-Ann
Arbor. He was also a member of the award-winning McKendree debate team, a participant
in McKendree’s Model United Nations program and a coach for Triad High School’s debate
team. As a junior, he was awarded the American Chemical Society St. Louis Chapter
Outstanding Junior Award. His research involves designing and synthesizing dye compounds
for use as lymph channel tracers in breast cancer surgery.
“Kyle easily combines the two criteria of ‘outstanding academic performance’ and a
‘commitment to the cause of international understanding.’ His preparedness, probing
questions, and discerning comments are prized in the world of debate,” said Dr. Alan
Alewine, associate provost. “Clearly, Kyle’s future is bright. He is a model of an
emerging world citizen and worthy of the Technos International Prize.”
In April, the University recognized Kyle for his outstanding academic achievement
in chemistry. He is also a member of the Pi Kappa Delta forensics (public speaking
and debate) honor society and a student of McKendree University’s Honors Program.
