Sexual Harassment & Title IX
McKendree University is committed to a learning, working, and living environment free from sex discrimination and sexual harassment. The University’s Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures addresses sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.
If you have experienced concerning behavior, witnessed an incident, or are unsure whether something falls under the policy, you can contact the Title IX office to discuss your options. You do not need to file a formal complaint to ask questions or request supportive measures.

What Happens After a Report?
The Title IX office reviews the information received and contacts the person who experienced the reported conduct, when identified, to discuss support and available options.
Submitting a report does not automatically begin a formal investigation. A report allows the University to assess the concern, explain available procedures, and offer supportive measures. A formal complaint requests an investigation under the Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures. In some circumstances, the Title IX Coordinator may initiate a formal complaint as permitted by the policy.
If a concern falls outside the Title IX process, the University may refer it to another appropriate office or process.
Support Is Available Without a Formal Complaint
Supportive measures are individualized, non-disciplinary services offered at no cost when appropriate and reasonably available. They may include changes to academic, housing, dining, work, or transportation arrangements, as well as no-contact measures.
Contact a Title IX coordinator to discuss what may help you continue participating in University programs and activities. Support is available whether or not you pursue a formal complaint.
Privacy and Confidential Support
Most University employees must share reports of sexual harassment with the Title IX office. They cannot promise confidentiality.
If you would prefer to speak confidentially before deciding what to do, visit Support Available for campus and community resources. Confidential resources can explain their roles and any legal limits on confidentiality before you share information.
Protection from Retaliation
Retaliation is prohibited against anyone for reporting a concern or participating—or declining to participate—in the University’s complaint resolution process. Contact a Title IX coordinator if you experience intimidation, threats, coercion, or other potentially retaliatory behavior.
