Report a Concern
If you have experienced sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking—or have concerns about someone else—you can report to McKendree University.
You do not need to determine whether a policy violation occurred before reaching out. The Title IX office can explain your options and connect you with support.
For immediate danger or urgent medical assistance, call 911. McKendree University Public Safety is available at 618-537-6911. The online reporting form is not an emergency response service.
Ways to Report
1. Submit an Online Report
Use the Incident Reporting Form to report your own experience, share a concern about another person, or provide information as a witness.
Include the information you know. If you are unsure of a date, location, or other detail, explain that in your description. You do not need to investigate or gather additional information before reporting.
Anonymous reporting is available. Leaving out your name and contact information may limit the University’s ability to follow up, offer individualized support, or investigate.
2. Contact the Title IX Office
You may contact any of the following individuals by phone or email to report a concern, ask questions, or request a meeting:
- Dr. Jennifer Miller, Title IX Coordinator & Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students | 618-537-6572 | jrmiller@mckendree.edu
- Calvin Wertman, Deputy Title IX Coordinator & Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs | 618-537-6912 | crwertman@mckendree.edu
- Karyn Wilson, Deputy Title IX Coordinator & Assistant Dean for Student Success | 618-537-6562 | krwilson@mckendree.edu
3. Confidential Support and Privacy
Speaking with a confidential support resource is different from making a report to the Title IX office. These resources can help you discuss your experience and consider your options without sharing your identifying information with the Title IX office, except when disclosure is required by law.
These campus resources can help you explore your options confidentially, subject to legal exceptions. They may provide non-identifying information for statistical reporting.

Reports to the Title IX office are handled with attention to privacy, but complete confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. Information may be shared as necessary to carry out the University’s response or as required by law.
What Happens After You Report?
A Title IX officer reviews the information received and contacts the person who experienced the reported conduct, when identified, to discuss available support and next steps.
That conversation may include:
-
- Any immediate safety concerns;
- Supportive measures and accommodations;
- Confidential counseling, medical care, and advocacy resources;
- University and law enforcement reporting options; and
- The process for filing a formal complaint.
A report does not automatically initiate a formal investigation. You may ask questions and request supportive measures without filing a formal complaint.
If you request that no further action be taken, the University will consider your wishes. In some circumstances, the Title IX Coordinator may initiate a formal complaint as permitted by the Title IX Policy.
Concerns outside the Title IX process may be referred to another appropriate University office or process.
Reporting to Law Enforcement
You may choose to report to the University, law enforcement, both, or neither. A University report and a police report are separate processes.
You may request assistance from the Title IX office or Public Safety in contacting law enforcement.

Protection from Retaliation
Retaliation is prohibited against anyone for reporting a concern or participating—or declining to participate—in the University’s complaint resolution process.
If you experience intimidation, threats, coercion, or other potentially retaliatory conduct, contact a Title IX coordinator. You do not need to wait for an investigation or hearing to raise a retaliation concern.
