Since women’s wrestling was first added to the list of Olympic sports in 2004, Alexis has been determined to make it to that championship podium. She had her first taste of competing and winning on an international stage in 2013 and has made a habit of snatching up world championship wins every year since. She started out taking home the gold medal in her weight class at the 2013 FILA Cadet World Championship held in Serbia. The following year, she earned a first place finish at the 2014 FILA Junior world Championship in Croatia, and in 2015, she placed first in her weight class at the Pan America Junior Championship in Cuba.

“It’s just an honor to get the opportunity to represent my country on such a grand stage,” she said. “I really enjoy traveling, seeing new places, and meeting new people. But of course, my first priority is to finish as high up on that podium as possible.”

Earlier this year, Alexis and five other Lady Bearcat wrestlers qualified to compete at the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials in Iowa City, Iowa. Although none were able to advance past the consolation semifinals, Alexis described her experience on the McKendree team as “a great environment that is so much closer to a family than anything else.” Through wins and losses, she knows she found the perfect teammates and coaches at McKendree to encourage her and help her reach her goals.
