The Hett Celebrates 10 Years!

Photo of the Hettenhausen center for the ArtsThe Russel E. and Fern M. Hettenhausen Center for the Arts opened in November 2006 and has since become Southern Illinois’ premier performing arts venue. The state-of-the-art theater is home to McKendree’s music, dance, theatre and show choir programs. Director Peter Palermo and Tech Manager Doug Magnussen have guided “the Hett” since its beginning. Over the past decade “the Hett” has hosted:

  • +200,000 visitors

  • +1,000 performers

  • At least 1 onstage wedding (alumna Tori (Gale) Galle ’09)

  • +200 “McKendree Presents” acts and distinguished speakers

  • Countless music concerts, theatre productions, dance recitals, children's theatre performances, town hall meetings, film showings, award presentations, and University events

The Hett Gala


The Hett celebrated its tenth anniversary on Sept. 23 with an unforgettable evening of all-star entertainment by soprano Christine Brewer, The Peter Martin Quintet featuring clarinetist Anat Cohen, vocalist Brian Owens, and MADCO Dance.
