Emma Mooneyham is Gilman Scholar

Emma MooneyhamThe beautiful Basilica of Our Lady of Luján was one of many places Emma Mooneyham visited in Buenos Aires, Argentina, during the fall semester. The senior biopsychology major from Fort Worth, Texas, received a prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, to study at the Universidad de Belgrano. Emma returned not only more fluent in Spanish but also more self-reliant and confident as a world traveler.

“I have always wanted to travel and see the world. Living abroad taught me that I can do anything independently and I will be just fine,” said Emma, McKendree’s fourth Gilman Scholar. She navigated the world’s 12th largest city via subway, train and bus to take in the cosmopolitan capital’s many free museums and festivals. She and her fellow students also traveled to Uruguay.

After she graduates, Emma plans to apply to be a Peace Corps volunteer, with a long-term career goal to become an American Red Cross field nurse.
