Artists Paint a Historic Birthday Cake
This birthday cake painted by art professor David Ottinger, Christine Gill ’13, Laura Kanyo ’14 and Meghan Dohogne ’14 is part of the current “Cakeway to the West” exhibit celebrating St. Louis’ 250th birthday in 2014. It is on display at the Emma Kunz House, an 1851 brick cottage in downtown Belleville, Ill., which is operated as a museum by the St. Clair County Historical Society. The StL250 organization recruited local artists to decorate 250 four-foot fiberglass cakes according to their assigned locations throughout the region. The McKendree artists chose a blue-and-white design inspired by the Kunz family’s small collection of Wedgwood pottery.
